The 2023 season witnessed dramatic shakeups in race results hours after the chequered flag had fallen. At the Austrian Grand Prix weekend, over 1200 potential offences had to be reviewed by race control, resulting in a dozen penalties being issued after the race finish.

The Red Bull Ring is notorious for its track limit violations, particularly at turn 10, when drivers wash out wide while finding the limit. But what led to this unprecedented barrage of infractions? Unlike previous seasons, 2023 adopted a more stringent stance—an unequivocal adherence to the white-line demarcations over corner-specific instructions, aiming to address past inconsistencies.
